Key eligibility

  • Genuine temporary entrant
  • Sufficient funds for your stay
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Intend to leave Australia before visa expires

The Visitor visa (subclass 600) covers a range of tourist and family visit situations. While many Irish citizens use the free eVisitor (651) for short trips, subclass 600 is used when you need longer stays or have specific circumstances.

When Irish applicants use the 600 instead of eVisitor

  • You need to stay longer than the eVisitor allows for your situation
  • You have previously had a visa refusal or complex immigration history
  • You are visiting under the Sponsored Family stream
  • The Department advises that eVisitor is not appropriate for your case

Common streams

  • Tourist stream – general tourism (offshore applications from Ireland)
  • Sponsored Family stream – visiting family in Australia with an eligible sponsor
  • Business Visitor stream – business activities where eVisitor is not suitable

Fees and processing times differ by stream. Always confirm the current stream settings on the official Department of Home Affairs website.

Genuine temporary entrant

You must satisfy the Department that you genuinely intend to visit temporarily and leave before your visa ends. Supporting documents may include:

  • Bank statements and evidence of employment or study in Ireland
  • Travel itinerary and accommodation plans
  • Ties to Ireland (family, property, ongoing commitments)
  • Letter of invitation, if visiting family

Applying from Ireland

Most Irish applicants lodge online through ImmiAccount while outside Australia. You will pay the government charge for your chosen stream as part of the application.

How we can help

We help Irish applicants assess whether the 600 is appropriate, gather supporting documents, and prepare the application for lodgement.

Frequently asked questions

If you need a longer stay, have complex circumstances, or the eVisitor is not suitable for your situation, subclass 600 may be appropriate. Most short Irish holiday trips use the free eVisitor instead.
